Broccoli Zamboni

Why grow Broccoli Zamboni?

Three very good reasons to grow this Heirloom veggie in your own garden, a nutritional Superfood:

  1. Curbs Overeating: a cup of broccoli has as much protein as a cup of rice or corn with only half the calories!
  2. Healthy Heart: the carotenoid lutein, B6 and folate may prevent the risk of atherosclerosis, heart disease and stroke. The potassium, magnesium and calcium content help regulate blood pressure.
  3. Boosts Immune Health: large amounts of beta-carotene, zinc and selenium which strengthen immune defense. Helps to relieve cold symptoms by supplying Vitamin C, an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It contains powerful antioxidants and anti-carcinogen that may help to hinder the growth of cancer.

How to enjoy the harvest:

Broccoli is delicious raw, or you can steam florets for a minute and then plunge them into ice water before serving as finger food. Eat the stems by peeling away chewy outer skin, slicing them, and then cooking them along with the florets. Garden-fresh broccoli is tender, so be careful not to overcook it.
Tasty in each of its many varieties, growing broccoli is easier than growing cauliflower or Brussels sprouts, and can produce bountiful crops for even novice gardeners.

When to grow:

Broccoli is a hardy vegetable that develops best during cool seasons of the year when the temperatures are between 4 and 21 degrees Celsius. Florets that mature in autumn when nights turn chilly taste the sweetest.

Zamboni can be grown from autumn to early summer harvest. Zamboni has uniform large florets with blue-green narrow turnip-shape leaves. It has a tall upright plant habit and a high bolt tolerance. Zamboni is a perfect variety for home gardeners with a high yield.

How to grow:

It requires a minimum of 6 hours direct sunlight for the best results. Mulch with organic material to keep the soil evenly moist and protected. Sprinkle some organic fertilizer around the base of the plant every month to ensure a good crop.
