The stipulation for the first month of the year has been declared by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), through the payment schedule for January 2026, and specifies when certain beneficiaries will receive their social grants at the start of the year. Such beneficiaries fall under Social Grants-Older Persons, Disability, and Children Grants-and CR-19 SRD.
January 2026 Social Grant Payment Dates
SASSA will start paying the social grants for the new year in early January. First, the Older Persons Grants shall be paid on Tuesday, 6th January 2026, followed by Disability Grants, which will start to pour in on Wednesday, 7th January 2026, and the Children’s Grants, on Thursday, 8 January 2026. These dates are penned angrily into the calendar, indicating a systematic monetary management, not allowing any overcrowding at the pay points.
Following the given dates being kept, beneficiaries with Direct Deposits, SASSA cards, or approved payment batteries should find their payments posted in or by a day from these dates onward. The COVID 19 SRD grants are scheduled on a different basis from closely knit social grant structures with payment dates every month. For the month of January 2026 (although this could apply to February 2026 as well), it is anticipated that such payments will be scheduled later into the month, with the payment period for the R370 grant running between approximately 23 to 28 January 2026. Beneficiaries are advised to monitor their bank accounts and SASSA’s Authentic Status notifications to be on alert for fund availability next.
